Alison-Madueke has been alleged by UK prosecutors of living a luxurious life due to corruption committed as Minister of Petroleum in Nigeria.
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources and first woman president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has been accused by the British prosecutors of a luxurious lifestyle as a result of bribes taken when she was oil minister under the Jonathan Ebele Goodluck government.
In an arraignment in London’s Southwark Crown Court, she was accused of multiple counts of bribery from 2011 to 2015. Prosecutors revealed that in the period under review, significant financial inducements and other advantages were given to Diezani by individuals and corporations interested in Lucrative oil and gas deals with the country’s state oil company, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Atlantic Energy and SPOG Petrochemical groups were specifically accused of giving Alison-Madueke financial and other advantages to get juicy oil and gas deals, advantages ranging from $137,000 in cash, chauffeur-driven cars, private jet flight to Nigeria, refurbishment work and staff costs at several London properties.
The British Judge Justine Thornton has assured that the case may be finalized at the end of April 24, 2026. Recall that Diezani has also been declared wanted in Nigeria for various financial crimes by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In 2017, the EFCC raised charges against her for several million dollars in properties and gold discovered across the country in her name.
Do you think the London revelations vindicated the various allegations of wrongdoings levelled against her by the EFCC? what do you think the Nigerian government should do to also bring her to justice under the country’s justice system after some indictment locally and are you of the opinion that this allegations should not be centered around her alone but other alleged conspirators who are evading justice?
